Topic Summary: Safety Compliance and Employer Liability in the Age of COVID-19. Mark will discuss best safety practices for employers to promote employee safety and reduce the spread of COVID-19, as recommended by OSHA, the CDC, and Utah Labor Commission. Mark also will discuss employer liability for COVID-19 workplace infections, including recent Utah legislation that provides immunity to businesses for COVID infections and its impact (or lack thereof) on employment.
Bio: Mark is a management-side employment attorney at Jones Waldo, where he is a shareholder, Senior Vice President, member of the Board of Directors, and Employment Practice Group Co-Chair. Mark works with employers to help them develop preventative employment practices and policies, and regularly provides in-house training on employment law issues (e.g., anti-harassment, EEO, disability accommodation and leave issues, and documentation) to managers and non-managers alike. Mark also defends employers in state and federal court and before the Utah Labor Commission and EEOC. Mark serves as the Director of Legal Affairs on the Utah SHRM Council and as Co-Director of Legal Affairs for Salt Lake SHRM. In 2018, the Utah State Bar recognized Mark as its Labor & Employment Attorney of the Year.
Bio: Juli Weber has been a training and HR professional for over 13 years, training individuals, managers and leaders in companies big and small, around the country and across industries. Juli is currently the External Recruiting Manager at Conservice, a national leader in utility billing management, based in Logan UT.
In the past, Juli has worked for Malouf, The Purch Group Inc, the Huntsman School of Business as an adjunct professor, the Campbell Soup Corporation and the Pepperidge Farm brand, YESCO Electronics, and Hollywood Video in training and HR roles. Juli has also been a trainer for BATC’s Custom Fit program, since 2009, working with companies around Northern Utah.
Juli is a Utah State University graduate with a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences and also has a Master of Management degree from the University of Phoenix-Online. She holds the PHR and SHRM-CP national certifications and has served on Bridgerland SHRM chapter board, for the past 6 years. She also served as the Conference Chair for the Utah Human Resource State Council (UHRSC), from 2016 to 2018.
Juli has been a speaker for National ATD, Utah Crossroads HR Conference, Utah ATD Conference, Utah ATD and Bridgerland SHRM chapters, Training Magazine Network, and at Learning Solutions Conference & Expo in Orlando Florida and most recently as a speaker at the HR Tech Summit for North America.
Juli has been married to her sweetheart, Mike for 22 years and together have 2 awesome kids. In her spare time, Juli likes to read, watch movies and craft.
Bio:President K. Chad Campbell is a licensed CPA and held the position of Chief Financial Officer for most of his more than 30-year career at Bridgerland Technical College. Since 2015, Chad has lead the College as President with extensive experience in administrative leadership, budgeting (fiscal resources), and long-range planning. President Campbell demonstrates a strong commitment to career and technical education. He serves on a variety of boards in the community with a focus on student success. He believes passionately that employers and students both benefit when educational programs and outcomes are designed to be aligned directly with business and industry needs.
President Campbell’s ‘open-door policy’ fosters a positive working environment that cultivates dynamic relationships that fellow employees often refer to as the ‘Bridgerland Family.’
