  Gary Rhoads Speaker: Dr. Gary Rhoads Title: “How To Avoid Awkward Conversations – Through Emotional Intelligence”

Summary: Dr. Rhoads teaches professionals his Stop Think & Lead approach—helping them learn how to make a point without making an enemy. He’s an expert in how to deal with critical situations and how to avoid conflict. Managing conflict requires a game plan. Stop Think Lead is a process everyone can use to handle critical situations and lead organizations to the best outcomes. You will leave the session with a formula to help you manage difficult conversations using this effective approach. Stop – Think – Lead! Stop – Don’t react defensively. Use stopping tactics that help you be patient and poised even if that’s not the way you feel. Most people fail to do this Stopping tactic. Think – What outcomes do I want? Sense the driving emotions and needs of everyone involved in the situation. Identify the many ideal outcomes. Lead – Pick the right leading tactic for the right moment for the best outcomes. Don’t go for speed and efficiency. Go for personal connection and effectiveness. Take Action!

Bio: Gary K. Rhoads received his B. S. degree in Zoology and M.B.A. from Idaho State University and earned a Ph.D. in Marketing from Texas Tech University. Rhoads is the Emeritus Stephen Mack Covey Professor of Marketing & Entrepreneurship at Brigham Young University. A recipient of various “Teaching Excellence” awards, Rhoads has taught for universities and companies in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Formerly a pharmaceutical salesperson for Bristol Laboratories, Rhoads has worked as a sales/customer engagement consultant for numerous companies in the United States (e.g., Du Pont, Borg Warner, AT&T, U. S. West, Prudential, Discover Card, American Express, Chevron Corporation, Megahertz, Dayna and Dynatronics), Europe (3M International, OCE and Bull Computers), and Asia (Lucky Goldstar Corporation). Professor Rhoads and has been an invited speaker throughout the world, highlighting best practices for enhancing the engagement of your employees and customers.
