Topic: Suicide Prevention Strategies- What You Can Do

Summary: Suicide is a public health concern that affects all of us. Just like any health concern, it is important to educate yourself about things such as warning signs of suicide and what to do to help. During this presentation, you will learn just that, warning signs, and how to help. You will also be provided information about how to speak, message, and communicate about suicide in a manner that keeps individuals at risk for suicide, safe. Participants will also be provided information on suicide prevention in the workplace including prevention, intervention and postvention strategies.

Bio: Chelsy has spent her professional career working in public health. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health Science emphasizing Health Education and Promotion. Chelsy is also a Certified Health Education Specialist. She has worked on a number of public health initiatives. Her main focus currently is suicide prevention. Chelsy is a QPR instructor, Trainer for Safe Messaging for Suicide Prevention, a HOPE Squad master trainer, the chair of the Cache Suicide Prevention Coalition and has extensive knowledge of risk and protective factors regarding mental health and substance abuse prevention. She has spent much of her time working with workplaces to know the signs of someone who may be thinking of taking their life and offers empowering practical tools to help combat the sad reality of suicide.

Hannah Cragun is the secretary for the Cache Suicide Prevention Coalition and is passionate in helping improve the mental well-being of the people she serves, in both her work and volunteer spheres. Hannah is a volunteer recruiter and coordinator for AmeriCorps Seniors, a national service program that provides companionship to socially isolated older adults. Hannah also assists Dr. Dave Schramm, a family life extension specialist in creating educational materials and social media content with various initiatives, including suicide prevention and mental wellness. Hannah has a master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies, and is trained in QPR and Safe Messaging for Suicide Prevention.
